NEW restrictions on parking in roads around Accrington Stanley's football ground are to be introduced after complaints from residents.
Parking at the Fraser Eagle Stadium is insufficient to meet demand on match days and after the club's promotion to League Two, the number of fans going to games is likely to increase.
At the first meeting of the Accrington Stanley Residents' Liaison Group, set up to improve relations between the club and residents, people complained fans arriving by car were causing parking problems and congestion.
At a meeting of Hyndburn Council's cabinet today, members will discuss plans to resolve these problems.
Borough traffic manager, David Law, said club officials have agreed to ask the owner of the former brickworks site, in Whinney Hill Road, if it can be used as a car park.
They are also said to be exploring other potential car park sites.
A report from Mr Law also said drivers were parking too close to junctions causing problems.
To address this, new waiting restrictions will be introduced at the junctions of Whalley Road with First Avenue, Wyresdale Avenue, Talbot Road and Livingstone Road, and First Avenue with Cleveleys Road.
To stop supporters double-parking in Livingstone Road, which was causing problems for coaches approaching the club, a waiting restriction will be applied from Whalley Road to the club entrance.
Speaking ahead of the meeting, ward councillor Malcolm Pritchard said: "What I would like to have seen is residents-only parking introduced around the ground on match days.
"They do something similar around Burnley's ground Turf Moor on match days.
"I think restrictions around the junctions are a good idea because people are parking too near the junctions. But restrictions all down one side of Livingstone Road leading down to the ground will cause problems for residents wanting to park near their homes."
Residents were also due to discuss the proposals with the club and highways officers from the borough and county councils at a meeting of the liaison group last night.
