City takes £7m in parking fines

Scotsman news

PARKING enforcers issued nearly a quarter of a million tickets to drivers in Scotland's capital last year - a rise of more than 7 per cent.
Council transport chiefs raked in at least £7 million from motorists, despite a series of parking concessions introduced at the end of 2005.
A total of 241,409 penalty notices were slapped on Edinburgh windscreens in 2005, compared to 225,084 in 2004.
The council receives £30 from each fine, rising to £60 if not paid within a fortnight.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that drivers paid more than £600,000 in parking fines on George Street alone - a rise of 7 per cent on 2004, when it was named the nation's most ticketed street.
